What is your personal brand and what is it saying about you?

There are corporate brands that we recognize as soon as we see them and know what they deliver. When we see the swoosh or the golden arches, someone doesn’t have to explain what you can expect from these brands.

The fact is, your brand will either represent your authentic self or it will send a message that does not represent who you really are. Everyone has a brand whether we realize it or not!

What makes up your brand? Your brand is made up of how you look (Appearance) + how you act (Behavior) + how you speak (Communication). Your ABC is based on two aspects of your total/holistic image, Visual Image and Experienced Image. I will go deeper into the components what makes up your total/holistic image in another post.

Let's start with the definition of what is a brand? Here are three.

"Unique design, sign, symbol, words, or a combination of these, employed in creating an image that identifies a product and differentiates it from its competitors. Over time, this image becomes associated with a level of credibility, quality, etc."

Business Dictionary

"A brand is an identifying symbol, mark, logo, name and/or sentence that companies use to distinguish their product from others"

Investopedia

“A brand is the personality of a business. It's the first thing you think of, or how you feel, when you see a logo or hear its name. In fact, you can use the word " personality" as a direct substitute for "brand" to instantly clarify its meaning"

Alan Dib, Successwise

The key words being used are, unique, differentiates, distinguish, identifying, and personality. Similar to corporate brands, your personal brand will have the same impact. How you present your personal brand will be what differentiates you from others and empower you to achieve your personal and professional goals.
